Listening to a worship song lyric today made me pause. It said, “If You will it, who can stop it?” It sounds bold, but worship lyrics are not always where we build doctrine.

Here is the truth. God’s ultimate will cannot be stopped. Yet God’s will for an individual life can absolutely be thwarted . Scripture makes that clear. God desires all to be saved, yet not all are saved. Not because He lacks power, but because He honors the free will He gave us. A person can resist Him openly and rebelliously, or quietly through fear, indifference, ignorance, or simple neglect.

Paul said that God placed every person where they are “in hopes that we might grope for Him and find Him” Acts 17:27. Jesus said, “Everyone who seeks finds” Matthew 7:8. God promised through Jeremiah, “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart” Jeremiah 29:13. Paul strengthens this when he urges us not to “lose heart” Galatians 6:9.

This truth is not only about eternal life. It also applies to our daily struggles, temptations, and battles against sin. The Greek word sōzō means to save, to rescue, to deliver. Salvation in Scripture is more than eternal. It is day by day. It is the strength God gives in the moment of weakness, the deliverance He offers in the moment of temptation, the healing He gives in the places we are wounded.

Sometimes we suffer within His will, and He uses those trials to refine us and draw us closer. And sometimes our suffering is needless, just like that familiar hymn says, “Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear.” Not because God withholds peace, but because we withhold surrender or delay obedience or simply do not come to Him with our burdens.

The same God who saves eternally is the God who rescues daily. His will for us is not only that we be redeemed in the end, but that we walk in victory now. Eternal salvation is the foundation. Daily deliverance is the fruit. And both flow from the heart of a Father who longs for us to seek Him, to trust Him, and to stop forfeiting the peace He stands ready to give.
