My heart, my doctrine, and the preaching of the gospel.

People sometimes say the gospel is “brainwashing.”

People sometimes say the gospel is “brainwashing.”

They mean it as an insult.

But slow down and think about the word for a second.

If your mind had been filled your whole life with lies, fear, guilt, pride, selfishness, false ideas about God, false ideas about yourself, and habits that quietly destroy you…

Wouldn’t you want it washed?

If you fell into mud, would you argue against water?

If your hands were dirty, would you defend the dirt?

If your windshield was covered in grime, would you call it “manipulation” to clean it?

Of course not.

Cleaning isn’t control.

Cleaning is clarity.

Nobody complains when their vision gets clearer.

⸻

The real question isn’t “brainwashing.”

The real question is:

Was your mind clean to begin with?

Scripture says it isn’t.

“The heart is deceitful above all things.”
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
“The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers.”

Blinded.

Not informed.
Not neutral.
Blinded.

So what if the problem isn’t that Christianity is putting something false into your head…

What if it’s removing what never belonged there?

What if it’s washing away lies you’ve believed your whole life?

Lies like:
“You’re basically good.”
“Truth is relative.”
“Do whatever feels right.”
“You don’t need God.”
“You can save yourself.”

Those aren’t freedom.

Those are chains.

And most people don’t even realize they’re chained because everyone around them is chained too.

⸻

Jesus didn’t come to brainwash you into fantasy.

He came to wash your mind back to reality.

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Notice the order.

Truth first.

Freedom second.

Not control.

Freedom.

If something enslaves you, it’s a lie.

If something frees you, it’s truth.

⸻

Think about it like this.

Imagine someone standing in darkness their whole life.

When light suddenly shines, it hurts their eyes.

They might even say, “Turn it off.”

But the problem isn’t the light.

It’s that they were used to the dark.

Or imagine drowning and someone grabs you and pulls you toward solid ground.

You might fight at first.

But they’re not attacking you.

They’re saving you.

That’s what the gospel is.

Not manipulation.

Rescue.

Not mind control.

Mind cleansing.

Not forcing something on you.

Removing what’s killing you.

⸻

And grace isn’t cheap.

It’s free, but it isn’t cheap.

Jesus didn’t toss advice from heaven.

He laid down His body to be beaten and crucified in your place.

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.”

A gift that costly isn’t cheap.

It’s priceless.

But gifts still have to be received.

If someone threw a diamond at you and you thought it was glass, you might step on it.

Not because it has no value.

Because you don’t recognize it.

That’s what people do with Christ.

They trample what could save them because they don’t see what it is.

⸻

Following Jesus costs something.

But what does it cost?

Your pride.
Your sin.
Your poison.
The very things that are already destroying you.

It’s like a doctor saying, “Give me the infection.”

That’s not loss.

That’s healing.

⸻

So yes.

Call it brainwashing if you want.

But if your mind has been filled with lies your whole life…

Wouldn’t you want it washed clean?

Because faith isn’t blind.

Faith is stepping into the light.

And once your eyes adjust, you don’t feel controlled.

You feel free.

Not guessing.

Knowing.

Standing on solid ground.
