Sometimes I am tempted to be impressed by my own words, but then I remember that they are genuinely not my own. I find myself amazed by what comes out of me, knowing full well I do not possess the ability to produce such depth or beauty on my own. I am often learning from the truth of those words at the exact same time they are being spoken.
Like the story of “Roxanne”, where the speaker in the shadows is merely delivering a masterpiece written by a deeper source, we are called to be vessels. It is the person of the Holy Spirit who tells us what to say. When we speak with genuine passion and reach into the dark to find a heart, we have to stay grounded in the reality that we are just the plumbing.
God, in His infinite wisdom and upside-down kingdom, chooses to let the precious river of living water flow through unworthy, broken clay pots. As Scripture points out, He chose the "foolishness of preaching" to confound the wise and save those who believe.
If you are fighting for someone’s soul, if you are relentlessly pursuing the lost past the gates of hell, remember that the power does not rest on your personal eloquence or intellect. It rests on Him. Our only job is to stay humble, stay tuned to His frequency, and let the Living Water flow through us into the darkness.
