Why doesn't God see me? Why doesn't He hear me?

Why doesn't God see me? Why doesn't He hear me?
You sit in the quiet of your pain, wondering if your voice is just bouncing off the ceiling. You wonder if the God of the universe has somehow overlooked your specific grief, your specific marriage, your specific life, or your specific cry for help.
He has already seen you. He has already heard you. He knows what you need before you even find the words to ask Him. You do not have to scream to get His attention, and you do not have to perform to make Him look your way.
This is why Deuteronomy warned against asking who will go up to heaven for us, and why Romans echoed it so fiercely. The problem isn't that God is far away, keeping His distance, or ignoring your cries. You don't need someone to ascend into the heavens to drag Christ down to pay attention to your life.
He already came down. The distance has been permanently closed.
When Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is at hand, He meant that God's reality, His comfort, and His attention are within arm's reach. He isn't standing on a distant balcony waiting for you to prove yourself. He is standing right at the door of your heart, knocking.
He isn't deaf to your life. He is present in it. He isn't blind to your hurt. He carries it. His love, His peace, and His presence are fully available right now, speaking at the door of your heart and waiting on your lips to be confessed, received, and taken hold of.
It does not become active in your life until you open the door, but make no mistake: He is already standing there.
Lord, open our eyes. Tear away the veils of pain, the feeling of being forgotten, and the blindness that keeps us from seeing how closely You are paying attention to us. Forgive us for thinking You are silent or far off when You are standing right at the door. Give us the courage to reach out, open our hearts, lay hold of the love You offer, and speak Your truth with our lips.
